In Partnership with: Seabird Island Community School and University of Fraser Valley (Trades Sampler)

Program Description: Seabird Adult Education under Seabird Island Community School (Adult Education Program) provides courses which are part of the BC Adult Graduation Diploma program. Adults who have not graduated may take courses leading to the British Columbia Adult Graduation Diploma (the Adult Dogwood).

Admission requirements: 18 years of age

Program Fees: free for non-graduated adults

Schedule: classes run Monday – Friday within the hours of 8:30am-3pm.  (Only in class courses offered at this time)

To graduate with a BC Adult Dogwood, students must obtain 20 credits which includes:

A Language Arts 12 course (4 credits)
A Math 11 or 12 course (4 credits)
At least three or more Grade 12 electives, or a Grade 11 Social Studies course and two additional Grade 12 electives (4 credits each)

New Course Addition: The Trades Sampler is a recent new addition to the Adult Dogwood program that is held in partnership with Seabird Island Community School and University of the Fraser Valley. The course earns 12 credits and is designed for students to gain basic introductory technical knowledge and hands on experience in a number of Industrial Trades. They will have the opportunity to explore the foundations of the following trades:

Automotive
Plumbing & Piping
Heavy Mechanical
Electrical
Welding
Carpentry
Culinary Arts

Certifications included in Trades Sampler:

Forklift
First Aid
Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS)

Upon completion of the Trades Sampler, students will be able to evaluate their suitability for working in the trades and determine a trade they may wish to pursue as a career choice. They will be able to pursue further education and seek an apprenticeship with UFV on their trade of choice.
